IL Thanksgiving Store Closures 2020: Walmart, Target, Best Buy

ILLINOIS — In recent years, some retailers have courted controversy by opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day — not allowing their employees to enjoy the holiday with families in the hope of generating even more revenue. But the coronavirus pandemic has changed many things, and this year, some retailers are closing their doors for the holiday.

Many retailers have announced they will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day this year, according to BlackFriday.com, a website dedicated to tracking news and trends related to the Friday after Thanksgiving, traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year.

The store closings are likely good news to health officials, who are urging people to forego the usual Thanksgiving celebrations with large gatherings and to maintain social distance to stem the spread of coronavirus.
