Police said these scanners are installed by criminals who want to steal credit card information. The scanners also don’t interrupt the original transaction.

The scanners were located at three different major brand gas stations in the city, according to police.

Police said the suspects are not employees of the companies.

Blue Springs police said officers went to all the gas pumps in the city this weekend to see if they could find any illegal scanners.

A video shared by Blue Springs police shows an officer finding one and then stops a person from paying so he can check the next pump.

Police said it’s easy to check for yourself for one of these scanners. Just a quick, gentle pull on the credit card scanner will be enough to tell if an illegal one is installed. If the scanner easily comes off, then it’s an illegal one.

The real scanner behind the fake will not come off with a gentle pull, according to police.
