Illegally imported chicharrones went to Miami and Carolinas stores. Here’s the list
Recalled chicharrones (pork rinds) went to 19 Florida stores, 17 of them in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area, after the original recall announcement didn’t even list Florida among the states receiving the snack.
That’s according to the retail store list released Tuesday night by the USDA concerning Rica Sula Tajaditas con Chicharron. Charlotte, North Carolina’s Capitology recalled the product sold in 5.3-ounce foil bags on Oct. 23 because they were “imported from Honduras, a country ineligible to export pork products to the United States,” the USDA recall notice said.
That notice also said retail stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana received the 4,679 pounds of plantains-and-pork rinds munchies. While stores from those states are on the 15-page PDF store list — eight pages of Texas stores alone — so are 19 stores in Florida. (And, one in Colorado, Mi Pueblo Market in the Denver suburb of Commerce City).
