Illinois Secretary of State accepting entries for student organ donation poster contest

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is reminding educators that the deadline for his 2024 Organ/Tissue Donor Program Student Poster Contest is approaching.

The poster contest is held every other year, letting students flex their creativity and artistic skills.

“This contest also educates our youth about the state’s organ and tissue donor registry to enable them to make an informed decision when they become eligible to register at age 16-17,” Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said in a letter to educators.

All submissions will be judged by a group of Secretary of State employees. According to the entry form, the entries will be judged on readability, general design, creativity and message.

One winner will be chosen from four grade groups: kindergarten-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade. Winners will be invited to a poster unveiling contest in Springfield, and receive plaques, an Illinois Blue Book, and $50-$100 gift cards.

A winner selected from the four groups will be printed out and displayed at schools, libraries, and Driver Services facilities across the state.

In order to enter the contest, all entries must be postmarked by Jan. 31. Past winners and the entry form for the contest can be found at Life Goes On’s website.

Illinois residents can register to be a donor on the Secretary of State’s website.
