Illinois Wesleyan successfully defends its NCAA Division III national title from 2019

A year separates Illinois Wesleyan’s last national title from its current one, but let the record show that the Titans are COVID-era back-to-back national champions.

Illinois Wesleyan capped off its second NCAA Division III National Championship at Speidel Jones Course at Oglebay Resort and Golf Club in Wheeling, West Virginia, on May 14 with a 13-shot win over runner-up Methodist after finishing at 23 over for four rounds. The 2020 postseason was canceled in NCAA golf, but the Titans also won the national title in 2019, the last time the championship was played.

Illinois Wesleyan becomes the first team to win back-to-back national titles in Division III since St. John’s did it in 2007 and 2008. The team’s 72-hole total of 1,155 is the lowest stroke total in the championship since 1998.

The Titans placed four players inside the top 12, with senior Rob Wuethrich leading the way at 5 over, good for a T4 finish.

Webster claimed the individual medalist in Will Hocker, who finished the tournament at 2 over.
