I’m a Celebrity star Jamie Lynn Spears has detailed the backlash she faced over her first pregnancy.

The Zoey 101 star gave birth to her daughter Maddie in 2008 at the age of 17, with the subsequent media backlash prompting the star to take time away from public life.

In the latest episode of I’m a Celeb, Jamie Lynn spoke with Fred Sirieix about that period of her life, explaining her decision to shy away from the limelight whilst she raised her daughter.

“After I finished Zoey 101, I had the love of my life, or what I thought, and I got pregnant,” she began. “I decided to keep the baby and the whole world was like ‘you’re a slut, you’re horrible, your life is over.’

“My parents had a lot going on and I think they were sad I was in this situation – it’s your baby having a baby. I had to hide away for a long time – they were relentless. I moved to Mississippi and literally hid, I had a gate around me.

“I had 20 paparazzi on me everyday, but they wouldn’t leave me alone. It was horrible. I wanted to be normal and I wanted my baby to be normal. Everybody thought I was going to be a horrible mum so I thought ‘I’ve got to raise this baby by myself’ – and I did.

“When I first got pregnant, a lot of people didn’t want me to have the baby. When I got out of that, I told my parents I was going to emancipate them so I could make my own decisions… It was the first time I was in control.”

During a chat at the Bush Telegraph, Fred remarked that he had “goosebumps” after hearing Jamie Lynn’s story, with the star herself revealing that she was “proud” and “thankful” of where she is now.
