I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winner Jill Scott has bagged herself a new TV role.

The former Lioness will be joining Sky Max's A League of Their Own as a new team captain in the next series. Scott will head up the blue team joined by panellist Micah Richards and will compete against red team captain Jamie Redknapp.

Romesh Ranganathan is confirmed to return as host of the popular sports reality show, which will be back on screens later this year.

Scott shared news of her new appointment in an Instagram post which featured images of a new Angel of the North statue resembling the footballer.

"Your new blue team captain for @alotosky," read the caption, alongside a prayer and blue t-shirt emoji.

The bronze statue is an ode to Scott's career and new role, that will remain on display between July 4 and July 9, before arriving at its final position "in opposing team captain Jamie Redknapp’s back garden".

"It’s not everyday you get to unveil a giant statue of yourself," says Scott. "It’s massive and incredibly lifelike. I could have done with those few extra feet back in my playing days!

"But the crowning glory for me? It’s got to be seeing Rom and Jamie’s faces when this lands on their doorstep in London - the banter has already started and I know I will get a lot of stick when I kick off my tenure as a team captain."

Commenting on the appointment of his new rival captain, Jamie Redknapp said: "What can I say – Jill Scott, a proper champion and England hero.

"I can’t wait to go head to head with her each week on A League of Their Own. She might have won a European Cup with the Lionesses, but does she have what it takes to win against the Red team?!"

Romesh Ranganathan added that it was "brilliant" to welcome "legend of the game" Jill Scott to the show, while panellist Micah Richards said he "couldn’t think of anyone better" to head up the blue team.

Audiences will be able to get a feel of what's to come from Scott on the show in an upcoming special this month. The Lionesses: A League of Their Own Special drops on Sky Max and NOW on July 12.

Jill Scott will be teaching comedians Maisie Adam and Katherine Ryan all the skills needed to be a world champion Lioness player.
