Nurse Startled as Men Approach Bison in Yellowstone National Park
An emergency nurse worried she would have to spring into action on May 3, when two men breached park guidance by approaching a pair of bison in Yellowstone National Park.
Video by Heidi Irby shows the two men coming within touching distance of the wild animals and pausing for photographs. In the background, Irby can be heard saying, “Are they serious? Oh my God, I’m going to be a first responder.”
As the men move nearer the animals Irby exclaims: “Dude, that thing will kill you!”
Irby told Storyful that she and her husband were visiting Yellowstone for the first time to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, but that she feared she would have to intervene as a professional after seeing the men approach the animals.
“As an ER nurse, my heart was pounding because I thought I’d have to save that man’s life after the bison retaliated,” Irby said.
Park rangers ask that visitors remain at least 25 yards away from bison at all time, warning that the animals might look heavy and slow but are in fact surprisingly fast. Credit: Heidi Irby via Storyful
