Democrat Eric Adams was elected New York City mayor after defeating Republican Curtis Sliwa on November 2, the Associated Press declared shortly after the polls closed.

Adams, veteran police officer and Brooklyn Borough President, will be the city’s second black mayor and will take over from Bill de Blasio in January, according to reports.

Sliwa, founder of the unarmed crimefighting organization the Guardian Angels, had been a vocal opponent of the vaccine mandate for city workers, which he speaks about in this speech.
