Immanuel UCC to feature jazz group The Snack Club [Religion Digest]

Jun. 24----Immanuel United Church of Christ, 99 S. Waverly St., Shillington, welcomes the jazz group The Snack Club to its 9 a.m. worship on Sunday. The Snack Club is made up of Mike Eben, saxophones; Ken Kemmerer, tuba; Carl Zeplin, guitar; Tim Gross, keyboard and saxophone; and John Fundyga, drums. Music will include hymns identified as part of the summer worship series "Then Sings My Soul" as well as a patriotic medley. Special jazz prelude begins at 8:50. At 3 p.m., Immanuel UCC, in collaboration with Berks Opera, will host soprano Toni Marie Palmertree and vocal coach and lyric diction expert Ellen Rissinger as they present a concert celebrating women composers throughout the centuries such as Florence Price, Nadia Boulanger, Irma Urteaga, Lori Laitman, and Clara Wieck Schumann. Also featured will be the Steinway Model D 9-foot concert grand piano on loan from Jacobs Music. This is the first Steinway Series concert. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $15 for adults and $5 for students to help support the Steinway fund.

—Mike and Linda Hertzog will provide music for Music on the Hill in the grove at St. Peter's United Church of Christ of Molltown, 219 Maidencreek Road, Richmond Township on Sunday at 10:15 a.m., weather permitting. A potluck lunch will follow the service. Bring a lawn chair.

—The Bridge Church will hold Church in the Park on Sundays at 10 a.m. from July through August at the Hamburg Park, 211 N. Second St., Hamburg.

—Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will have coffee and conversation on Sunday at 8:30 and 10 a.m. in the Welcome Center.

—St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 5 Brooke Manor, Birdsboro, has created a Community Care Center on its campus. St. Mark's has initiated several community missions, including a senior group that meets bi-monthly with bingo and a community garden. Their newest mission in a shower and laundry facility for the homeless. Dedication of the shower and laundry will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall..

—Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, will hold Together Time with coffee, snacks and conversation on Sunday following the 9:30 a.m. worship service.

—Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, will hold a time of fellowship and refreshments in the narthex following the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

—St. John's Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will have a free drive-through, take-out meal today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. No registration necessary.

—The United Church of Christ of Robesonia, 301 W. Penn Ave., will celebrate Music Sunday at 10:15 with a hymn sing led by the Rev. Robert Masenheimer, two liturgical dances led by Becky Boone and a vocal solo by Terry Pastor. The writing interest group meets on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Call the Rev. —Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Ave., will conclude Pride Month on Sunday with a service at 9:30 a.m. focusing on inclusion and equality. Music will be provided by the music staff and the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Steve Ohnsman.

—Adult forum on Sunday at 9 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, will present "Living Life to its Fullest: Knowing Your Story," an exploration of knowing, owning and writing the stories that make us who we are. On Wednesday, the 5:30 Eucharist will feature the music of Billy Joel with guest musician David Cullen. Parking is available in the Abe Lincoln Hotel parking garage and the M&T Bank lot, both off of Washington Street. Handicap spaces are available beside the church on Court Street.

—There will be a community worship service presented by the Ecumenical Affairs Committee of Wernersville on July 2 at 11 a.m. at the St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ grove, 591 N. Church Road, Lower Heidelberg Township. Music will be presented by the church choirs. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic lunch to enjoy fellowship following the service. Bottled water will be provided.

—Sue Leinbach will perform "Goodness of God" at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Zion's Spies Evangelical Reformed Church, 318 Spies Church Road, Alsace Township.

—The first of three services held annually in Old Belleman's Church, 3540 Belleman's Church Road, Centre Township, will be held on Sunday at 9 a.m. The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and maintained as dedicated in 1815. Original carpeting and oilcloth. No heat, AC, electric or plumbing. There is a Bohler single manual handpump pipe organ.
