Mar. 29—A new tech-heavy Van Gogh exhibit will open Aug. 2 in a "historic venue in the heart of Minneapolis."

Organizers aren't revealing the exact location of what they're calling the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit, which runs through Sept. 29, but tickets are on sale via vangoghmsp.com. And they're spendy. Off-peak timed tickets are $39.99 and peak timed tickets are an additional $10. Flex tickets allow patrons to arrive up to two hours before or after their selected start time and are $54.99 and $59.99. VIP tickets are $99.99 and include "priority access," a Van Gogh cushion, poster, laminate and other "built-in flex perks."

The exhibit promises 500,000 cubic feet of "monumental projections animating Vincent van Gogh's oeuvre. Wander through entrancing, moving images that highlight brushstrokes, detail, and color — truly illuminating the mind of the genius ... Astonishing in scale and breathtakingly imaginative, you will experience Van Gogh's art in a completely new and unforgettable way."

Video artist Massimiliano Siccardi conceived and designed the event, which features a soundtrack by Luca Longobardi. The pair have worked together in France on a series of immersive digital art experiences. A version of the exhibit is shown in the Netflix series "Emily in Paris."

In a review, the Chicago Tribune described the experience as such: "The viewer stands in the room, soaking in the sights and the soundtrack of what is really more short film than exhibit, 40 or so minutes of Vincentian near-psychedelia. It's an updated version of the 1970s Pink Floyd laser light shows projected onto planetarium ceilings late on weekend nights for audiences of dubious sobriety."

The show drew 170,000 visitors in Toronto and, according to organizers, "zero reported cases (of COVID-19) associated with the exhibition." Protocols will be in place including reduced capacity in line with state guidelines, temperature checks for staff and guests on arrival, and sanitization stations placed throughout the venue.

The Immersive Van Gogh exhibit will visit at least a dozen cities around the country, including New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Seattle.
