A blockbuster traveling exhibition that takes people inside some of the most iconic artworks in the history of Western civilization is scheduled to debut in Oklahoma City soon.

"Immersive Van Gogh" is slated to open Dec. 14 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. Tickets are on sale at https://www.vangoghoklahoma.com for the limited OKC engagement, which is scheduled to run through Jan. 8, 2023.

Oklahoma City is scheduled to be the 21st North American city to get an "Immersive Van Gogh" exhibit, according to a news release. More than 4.8 million visitors have toured the experiential art attraction since its 2020 debut.

“We cannot wait to share the immersive art show that is sweeping the nation with the people of Oklahoma City,” said "Immersive Van Gogh" producer Corey Ross in a statement. “We opened three successful 'Immersive Van Gogh' exhibits in the bordering states of Texas and Colorado with a fourth exhibit announced for Kansas City, so Oklahoma City was the next logical choice to get the exhibit.”

"Immersive Van Gogh" invites audiences to go inside famed works by Vincent van Gogh. The prolific Dutch post-Impressionist artist struggled with mental illness and remained poor and virtually unknown throughout his relatively short life — he died in 1890 at age 37 of a presumably self-inflicted gunshot wound — but van Gogh posthumously emerged in the 20th century as one of the most influential painters in Western art history.

With more than 50 projectors casting in excess of 500,000 square feet of imagery, "Immersive Van Gogh" envelopes visitors in massive projections of the artist's familiar colors and brushstrokes. The exhibit will include animated details from works such as "Self Portrait with Felt Hat" (1888), "The Bedroom in Arles" (1889), "Irises" (1889) and his beloved masterwork "The Starry Night" (1889).

The animated projections — which have been seen on TV on the "Today" show, "Dancing with the Stars" and "Emily in Paris" — are set to a score of classical and contemporary music.

One of several popular experiential exhibits of Van Gogh's work, "Immersive Van Gogh" comes from Toronto-based Lighthouse Immersive, which creates, produces and distributes digital immersive art experiences. Lighthouse Immersive’s Global Creative Director David Korins is best known for his work on  the Broadway musicals "Hamilton," "Dear Evan Hansen" and "Beetlejuice."

The internationally acclaimed traveling exhibit's Italian creative team custom designs their vision to fit the singular architecture of each "Immersive Van Gogh" venue. The experience was designed by creative director Massimiliano Siccardi, with music by multimedia composer Luca Longobardi. Vittorio Guidotti is the art director for the attraction, sometimes billed as "The Original Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit."

Ticket prices will start at $39.99 for adults and $24.99 for children 16 or younger, with timed and flexible ticket options to be offered.
