Immigration protesters temporarily shut down PortMiami’s Biscayne Boulevard entrance

A group of immigration protesters temporarily blocked the Biscayne Boulevard entrance to PortMiami Monday afternoon, demanding President Joe Biden create a pathway to citizenship for Haitian refugees and others.
Commercial port operations were not affected, a PortMiami spokesperson said. The I-395 port tunnel remained open.
Bearing banners saying “Stop Deporting Haitians” and “Kamala Harris Deliver Citizenship for Millions,” the approximately 20 protesters linked arms and lay down in front of the roadway. Police halted traffic on Biscayne between Northwest 4th and 6th streets for an undetermined period. By 3 p.m. the roadway had reopened.
Many Haitians are attempting to leave the island nation amid deteriorating conditions, including the assassination of their president and another devastating earthquake. This weekend, an armed gang kidnapped a group of 17 North American missionaries.
In September, the same movement, “Rally 4 Citizenship,” staged a protest outside a U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement field office on Northwest 7th Avenue.
