Pirate week at Museum of Coastal Carolina

The Museum of Coastal Carolina will have a full week of pirate programing. Pirates are an important part of the maritime history of the Carolinas. Since the late 1500s the Outer Banks have been a hotbed of piratical activities. The nearness of the gulf stream combined with shallow waters and sandbars made the Outer Banks an ideal location for piracy.

Activities include a lecture on pirates and the sea, Tuesday, July 12; a pirate walk in the park, Wednesday, July 13 with the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport; all day sword fighting and cannon demonstrations, Thursday, July 14; and Black Sails Adventure pirates on site for stories and meet and greet all day, Friday, July 15.

Daily programs include pirate themed crafts, a pirate scavenger hunt, and pirate movie myth presentations.

The museum is located at 21 E. Second St. Non-member all-day admission, $10 adults; $9 ages 62 and over; $8 ages 3-12; free for ages 2 and under, and members. Details: 910-579-1016 or https://museumplanetarium.org/.
