‘In Dog We Trust’: Typo at Florida sheriff’s office unnoticed for weeks

Rug manufacturer blamed

Talk about a ruff welcome.

A spelling error on the rug at the front entrance to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Largo, Fla., went unnoticed for weeks, WFTS-TV reports.

The mistake: The image of a badge on the rug included the phrase “In Dog We Trust” on its crest instead of “God.” A sheriff’s deputy noticed the typo on Wednesday, department spokeswoman Cecilia Barreda told the Associated Press, and the rug was rolled up and removed.

The mistake was made by the manufacturer, American Floor Mats, which has agreed to replace the $500 rug, according to officials. WFTS-TV reported that it was one of two rugs delivered to the department. The second rug had “God” spelled correctly.
