Inaugural Big Art Pop Up event this weekend in Mentone; concerts, presentations on tap

Little River Arts Council and Mentone Inn is hosting the first weekend-long Big Art Pop Up event May 20-22. Each day is said to be busy with community-wide concerts and educational presentations throughout the three days.

The event will kick off Friday with a community concert by Will Dooley & Company from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the grounds of Mentone Inn's Linger Longer Pavilion.

Saturday, the official day of Big Art Pop Up from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature more than 20 artists and music by the Vegetaters, an old-time string band. Big Art Pop Up also will take place at the pavilion and the grounds adjacent to Mentone Farmer's Market, which will be open that day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition, Moon Lake Community Library and Little River Arts Council will present Dr. Elizabeth Dulemba, a college professor, children's book illustrator, blogger and TEDx Talk presenter. She will be hosting free educational programs throughout the weekend; all will be located at the Moon Lake Library and are free and open to the public.

The first two sessions will take place on Saturday, with a children's program at 10 a.m. focusing on the book "Crow Not Crow," and the second session at 1 p.m. for adults teaching about the process of children's book illustration.

The final program on Sunday will begin at 2 p.m. It is titled "Is Your Stuff Stopping You? The Art of Letting Go," and is based on Deulemba's TEDx Talk on the freedom of downsizing.
