Inaugural Bunny Trail to launch in downtown Northport this weekend

Tuscaloosa's One Place, the nonprofit agency behind Tuscaloosa's Tinsel Trail, will kick off the inaugural Bunny Trail this weekend in downtown Northport.

The Bunny Trail, presented by Lowe's Tuscaloosa and Premier Service Co., will be similar to the traditional Tuscaloosa Tinsel Trail, but with a hint of spring. Downtown Northport's Main Avenue will be lined with up to 120 wooden eggs about 5 feet tall. Each egg is sponsored and decorated by local businesses, organizations and individuals.

Proceeds from the Bunny Trail will be used to support Tuscaloosa's One Place programs and services for families.

"We saw a great community response surrounding Tinsel Trail and the city of Northport had asked us if we had any ideas for something for a spring event," said Ashley Cornelius, director of communications at Tuscaloosa's One Place.

"This was an idea that we had floated around for a while but didn't really know how to make it happen. So the city of Northport team did a fantastic job of pulling together all of their all their energy and their efforts to bring this event to downtown Northport," Cornelius said.

  • An egg hunt on from 3-6 p.m. April 7 at Shirley Place, with prizes, activities and a visit from the Easter Bunny

  • A Spring Jubilee from 3-6 p.m. April 22, with crafts, kids' activities and refreshments.

Cornelius said the Bunny Trail is expected to bring community interest to downtown Northport, while also supporting the mission and services of Tuscaloosa's One Place.

The agency has more than 20 programs that provide help to community members with after-school and child development, family and parenting, career and personal development, and teen intervention and support.

"I'm just really excited to see kids and families down there having a wonderful time. That is the heart of everything we do at Tuscaloosa's One Place. We want to build safe, healthy and strong families. We are able to do this event that helps support the programs and services that we offer, and also give families a free fun, safe thing to do throughout the season," Cornelius said.
