Dalton Local Schools Board of Education

Monday, June 27 meeting

KEY ACTION Superintendent James Saxer announced the completion of the new Dalton High School softball field and plans for an inaugural game early July.

DISCUSSION After months of work and thousands of dollars in donations, the Howard J. Wenger Field, dedicated to the Wenger family, is complete.

Saxer said the district will have a dedication ceremony on July 12 starting at 6 p.m. with a game between current players and program alumni shortly after.

During the fourth inning of the game, a remembrance will take place in honor of Janine Ramer, a previous Dalton High School softball player, who died following a car crash in 2003. Saxer said the team will retire her number and put a plaque on the home field dugout in her memory.

A local food truck along with members of local youth softball teams will be at the event, which will be located at 151 W. Main St. in Dalton, across from the Dalton Branch of the Wayne County Public Library.

OTHER DISCUSSION With contracts approved at previous board meetings, Saxer said the work on the Dalton High School windows and ventilation system is under way.

Saxer said all of the windows have been replaced and workers have begun prepping the school, with the installation of wires and other such things, for the installation of a building-wide air conditioning system.

The air conditioning units are expected to arrive by mid-July and be installed before the fall, Saxer said.
