Inaugural Salsa Saturday celebrates Hispanic culture in Sturgis
STURGIS — It was a celebration of Hispanic culture and food Saturday at the inaugural "Salsa Saturday" event on Jan. 28.
Sturgis Middle School hosted the afternoon festivities, where traditional dances were presented and those in attendance could sample and vote on the best salsa in Sturgis.
Carneceria Michoacan, La Palma Taqueria, El Taco Loco Mexican Taqueria and Maria's Restaurant offered their best salsas for people to try in a blind taste test, with Maria's emerging as the voted winner and taking home a trophy.
Attendees also had the opportunity to take something home. Raffle prizes given out included gift certificates and food items from local businesses.
