Incident at Florida mall leaves one injured

Panic at a mall in Boca Raton Florida on Sunday (October 13) when gunfire rang out, or at least some kind of loud noise.

Shoppers scrambled for cover, and were told by police to shelter in place.

The incident left one person injured, although Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander said it wasn't a gunshot wound.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHIEF OF BOCA RATON POLICE DEPARTMENT, DAN ALEXANDER, SAYING:

"What we've learned is that it's apparent the victim sustained the trauma by hitting his head on a door as he was leaving a particular area of the mall."

SWAT teams searched the area and police have reviewed surveillance video, but so far haven't found any suspects or evidence of a shooting.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHIEF OF BOCA RATON POLICE DEPARTMENT, DAN ALEXANDER, SAYING:

"Some noise went off, there was some type of bang and we need to get to the bottom of that if we can, and determine what happened. We have not recovered any shell casings, no rounds of ammunition, anything along those lines. So we are going to continue to look at every potential option."

Police are still calling the incident "suspicious".
