5 Things To Know About Republican Legislation To End Ohio's Income Tax

Ohio Republicans want to stop taking your money. They've introduced a bill in the Ohio State Senate that would cut personal income tax by 10 percent every year over the next decade, culminating with an end to the income tax altogether.

  1. The top rate currently is about 4 percent, says the Department of Taxation.

  2. Sen. Stephen Huffman, a Tipp City Republican, introduced SB327. Nearly a third of the GOP senators are co-sponsors.

  3. In 2021, Ohio collected more than $10 billion in income tax money.

  4. The state's revenue gap would be made up from sales taxes and other as-yet-unidentified sources.

  5. Democrats say eliminating the income tax would disproportionately benefit the wealthy and high-income earners, not the poor or working class.
