Incumbent GOP Bucks County commissioner, running mate, win spots on November ballot

Incumbent Bucks County Commissioner Gene DiGirolamo, along with current Bucks County Controller Pamela Van Blunk, were the top two Republican vote-getters in Tuesday's primary, securing their party nomination to face the Democrats in November.

The party endorsed candidates bested former commissioner Andy Warren. With 94 percent of the vote counted, DiGirolamo had 29,298 votes and Van Blunk topped him with 32,171 votes. Warren garnered 13,567, according to unofficial results.

The commissioners are a powerful group. The board is responsible for the adoption and administration of the county's $457.5 million operating budget and overseeing roughly 2,400 full-time employees and 20 departments.

DiGirolamo, elected to the commission in November 2019, is a former auditor for Bensalem, and served for 25 years in Pennsylvania's House of Representatives.

Van Blunk is a graduate of Widener Law School and served as legal advisor to the Bensalem School District as well as the Chester City and Chester-Upland school districts in Delaware County.

Commissioners Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia and Bob Harvie, both Democrats, were also running mates and endorsed by the Democratic Committee of Bucks County.

They were unopposed in their party's primary and will appear on the General Election ballot, looking to hang on to control of county government for the Democrats.

Ellis-Marseglia, first elected in November 2007, began her fourth term on the Board of Commissioners in January 2020. As the longtime minority party member on the board, she became chair of the commissioners when the Democrats took control of county government.

Harvie was elected to the board in November 2019, and named chair on Jan. 5, 2022.

Prior to becoming county commissioner, Harvie served on the Falls Township Planning Commission for two years before being elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2003.

In November, all three seats on the commissioner board are up. One seat must be held by the minority party.
