Incumbent Rep. Scott Cepicky, R-Culleoka, secured the 64th District House seat for another term, reigning over opponent Jason Gilliam in the Aug. 4 Republican Primary.

Cepicky drew 4,732 votes, or 54.4%, while Gilliam garnered 3,943 votes, or 45.35% of the vote.

Republicans Gilliam and Cepicky squared off at a time when the county is facing a property tax increase and a new budget.

“We should bring it up to $2.71 which would garner Maury County about $9 million in revenue,” Cepicky said. “We would not create new law, just tweak existing law.”

The building fees have been a strong point of contention in this race, since its failure in the Tennessee General Assembly House, setting the stage for Maury County’s 31-cent property tax increase.
