India@75 event at the Nolensville Historical Society celebrates India's 75 years of independence

A celebration of India@75, an initiative also referred to as “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” took place on Saturday. Nashville's American Indian community gathered at the Nolensville Historical Society at 7248 Nolensville Road to observe India's 75 years of independence and share various aspects of its rich culture from dance to food to music.

The event kicked off with a parade led by notable community members such as the mayors of Franklin, Nolensville and Nashville and a consul from the Consulate General of India, Atlanta, alongside participants of Indian origin. A cultural variety program followed.

Local nonprofit organizations played key roles in planning the India@75 celebration. Nonprofits with regional committees involved in the organization were Bengali Association of Greater Nashville, the Gujarati Association of Middle Tennessee, the Gujarat Cultural Association, Nashville Kannada Koota, Tennessee Telugu Samithi, Tennessee Tamizh Sangam, Tennessee Marathi Mandal and SDR for Hope.

The showcase was the first of its kind in the area in which various groups presented features of their cultures representing their home states in India.
