India Amory Releases New Table Linens, and Partners with Mottahedeh to Show Them Off

India Amory, the New York–based lifestyle brand specializing in block-printed linens for the home, has launched its spring collection of colorful tablecloths and napkins. The six new prints are available in rectangular and round iterations, while the dinner napkins are available for purchase as sets of four.

The launch of this new capsule comes with a collaborative twist. Amory shot a spring look book of tabletops draped in the new linens—and set with some of Mottahedeh’s most iconic china patterns (namely, Blue Dragon and Tobacco Leaf). In doing so, Julia Amory, founder of India Amory, aimed to “take something that one might reserve for a special occasion, and make it accessible and playful,” as she explains to AD PRO.

For the six new prints, Amory was inspired by warmth. “I gravitated toward patterns that I could see myself setting a table with for an alfresco lunch,” she says. “These new prints are all about a glass of sangria at noon—and it not being the end of the world if said sangria ends up spilling on the tablecloth.” But the savvy partnership taps into another component of Amory's own focus. The company founder hopes that by showing her linens paired with elevated tableware, buyers can find inspiration in the entertaining equivalent of her sartorial eye. “The finest china you can buy, paired with something fun and low-commitment—it entirely changes the look of your [table]," she says. "These prints beg you to throw a summer soirée.”

Mottahedeh owner and design director Wendy Kvalheim says the styling partnership is a natural pairing. “Mottahedeh creates our pieces to be terrifically traditional and yet transitional," Kvalheim said in a statement. "India Amory’s linens have a luxury look and quality . . . at an accessible price point. Julia’s designs share the same aesthetic and philosophy—patterns that have a provenance, but also a distinctly modern appeal. This collaboration offers pattern mixing inspiration to our devoted collectors and first-time customers.”

When she's pressed for a favorite of the six new fabric offerings, drawing on the classic feel of a traditional chintz while simultaneously remaining playful and fresh, Aegean Chintz emerges as Amory’s front-runner. “It’s just magical!” she says of the new print. And the perfect tableware to pair it with? Mottahedeh, of course. “I have always been a tremendous fan of Mottahedeh, and have collected pieces for years,” Amory says. “My design ethos has always been high-low, and their brand is the perfect classic foil to India Amory's ‘cheap and cheerful’ linens.”
