India election results - live: Narendra Modi claims victory as BJP leads across country
With counting well under way in India's general election, Hindu nationalist prime minister Narendra Modi is well on course to return for a second term.
The party and its allies were leading in more than 340 of the 543 parliamentary seats up for grabs, which would give it a similar scale of victory to the landslide result of 2014.
As counting continues, some senior members of the main opposition Congress party are already admitting defeat and a post mortem of the grand old party's poor performance has begun.
