BENGALURU, India (AP) — India and South Africa have drawn their Twenty20 series 2-2 after the fifth match was abandoned Sunday due to rain.
Only 3.3 overs of play were possible with India reaching 28-2 after South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl.
Lungi Ngidi still had time to take 2-6 in 1.3 overs. He dismissed openers Ishan Kishan (15) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (10) as India made a poor start in the series decider.
The start of the game had been initially delayed by 50 minutes with the match reduced to 19 overs a side.
Shreyas Iyer (0 not out) and Rishabh Pant (1 not out) were at the crease when rain intervened again. Play was finally called off with no result after a stoppage of 104 minutes.
South Africa won the first T20 in Delhi by seven wickets, and the second match in Cuttack by four wickets.
India bounced back with heavy wins in the next two games — a 48-run victory in Visakhapatnam in the 3rd T20, and winning the fourth T20 in Rajkot by some 82 runs.
India lost the toss in all five games.
India next has a two-match T20 series against Ireland.
