Indian Valley, Tusky Valley and Garaway qualify both teams in OHSAA cross country

CAMBRIDGE ― Indian Valley, Tusky Valley and Garaway qualified both their boys and girls teams out of the district cross country championships at Cambridge on Saturday.

In Division II, Indian Valley's boys finished in second place with 85 points, behind Minerva, which scored 46. The Braves were led by senior Xander Heil, who placed third in 16 minutes, 57.42 seconds. Joe Carlisle, a sophomore, finished fifth in 17:09.03, while Max Kinsey (18:04.48) was 14th, Seth Krocker (19:00.93) was 31st and Delany Phillips (19:21.37) was 36th.

Claymont was seventh, one spot out of qualifying as a team, with 223 points. Junior Gavin Milburn was the top finisher for the Mustangs (19:34.67), in 40th place.

The Indian Valley girls were sixth with 161 points. Minerva won the team title with 29 points while West Holmes (67), Carrollton (93), Meadowbrook (136) and John Glenn (140) rounded out the top five. Claymont was ninth with 271 points.

Rylee Raymond finished in 21:07.28 for seventh place. Brooklyn Myers (23:09.78) was 35th, Alisha Shaw (23:48.00) was 41st, Loretta Johnson was 44th (23:52.22) and Gia Miller was 45th (23:56.11).

Grace McPherson of Claymont qualified as an individual, with a 24th-place finish in 21:45.92.

In Div. III, Tusky Valley won the boys team title with 24 points and Garaway was third with 86.

Jake Kapper (first, 17:20.27); Teagan Perkowski (second, 17:31.85), Kolton Wertz (sixth, 18:03.89) and Danny Hursey (ninth, 18:22.20) had top 10 finishes, while Josh Owens (12th, 18:32.29), Abe McElwee (14th, 18:44.37) and Kaeli Whitlatch (27th, 19:54.57) were right behind.

Garaway was led by Nathan Money (18:23.72) in 10th place, while Seth Zimmerman (18:47.86) was 15th, Nic Palmer (18:49.77) was 17th, Carter Travis (19:57.31) was 28th and Jase Miller (20:39.60) was 28th.

In the girls race, Tusky Valley was second with 70 points, behind Sandy Valley (65). Garaway was fourth with 79.

Tusky Valley's top finisher was Trista Lieser (21:02.43) in fourth, while Sami Ward (22:07.14) was 16th, Ella McElwee (22:52.97) was 22nd, Sally Ray (23:12.83) was 26th and Leah Bourquin (23:28.09) was 29th.

For Garaway, Meghan Schwartz (21:06.73) was fifth, Kenadi Yoder (21:52.86) was 13th, Mya Wengerd (22:15.59) was 18th, Jessie Johnson (22:51.90) was 21st and Tori Beachy (27:02.72) was 52nd.

Strasburg's Kylie McKenzie finished eighth (21:09.68) to qualify as an individual.

Dover and New Philadelphia competed in the Division I championships at GlenOak.

The Quakers' Marcus Adelman finished in eighth place (16:11.78) in the boys race to advance, while Sydney Stevenson (19th, 20:47.71) of Dover and Cambri Mushrush (20th, 20:49.28) of New Philadelphia qualified for next week's regional in the girls race.

Dover and New Philadelphia will compete in the Division I regional at Boardman, while the other county qualifiers will race at Pickerington North.
