Indian zoo welcomes new tiger cubs

The cubs were born on February 3 and both the cubs are healthy, Divisional Forest Officer of Assam State Zoo said on Monday (February 07).

With the addition of the newest members, the number of Bengal Tigers in the zoo has increased to nine.

India was home to an estimated 40,000 tigers at the turn of the last century, but poaching and the loss of habitat brought them to the brink to extinction.

According to the tiger census, the country's tiger count stands at 2,967 in 2018, up a third from 2014.
