Indiana BMV announces permanent closure of Ameriplex branch on April 1

INDIANAPOLIS — Residents who rely on the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles' Ameriplex branch for sorting out their vehicular registration and driver's licensing privileges will have to find a new location.

The last day of operation for the branch at 7811 Milhouse Road will be Friday, April 1, 2022.

A cause for celebration: No COVID setbacks anticipated for Prom 2022.

The decision to close the branch in January came after thorough review of feedback from area residents as well as an assessment of branch activity over the past several years, BMV officials said.

“These closures are not easy decisions, but this change will enable us to more effectively use state resources by reassigning all team members to alternative branches while continuing the great government service residents deserve,” BMV Commissioner Peter Lacy said in a Jan. 7 statement, when the closure was first announced.

BMV branches in Danville, Greenwood, Martinsville and Plainfield will remain open, along with several Indianapolis locations. Some of these locations contain one or more BMV Connect kiosks, which are available 24/7.

More: These 752 vanity license plate applications were rejected by Indiana BMV in 2021. Here's why.

The nearest location to the Ameriplex branch is the Plainfield office, located at 2477 E. Main St., which will be expanding in the late first quarter of 2022 to better serve area residents, BMV officials said.
