Indiana elections: Add these 12 important dates to your 2024 calendar

Hoosiers have major decisions to make in 2024 in a slew of important state and federal elections.

There's the presidential race, and then there's the unusually competitive race for Indiana governor. Hoosiers will also choose their next U.S. congressional delegation, state lawmakers and state attorney general.

The state of Indiana has a website where you can check your voter registration status, update it, register to vote for the first time or even apply to vote by mail. That voter portal is indianavoters.in.gov.

You can also call or visit your county's voter registration office.

No matter how you're planning to vote ― on Election Day, by mail, early in-person ― there are a few key dates and deadlines to remember.

2024 election dates to remember in Indiana

In Indiana, voters cast ballots for both state and federal elections at the same time. So, there are only two election days to remember:

  • Primary: Tuesday, May 7

  • General: Tuesday, Nov. 5

Dates to remember for the primary election

  • Monday, April 8: The voter registration deadline to be able to vote in the primary.

  • Tuesday, April 9: First day of early in-person voting.

  • 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 25: Deadline for your county clerk to receive your absentee ballot application ― so plan accordingly if you're mailing that in.

  • Noon Monday, May 6: End of early in-person voting.

  • 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 7: Deadline for county officials to receive your completed ballot.

Dates to remember for the general election

  • Monday, Oct. 7: The voter registration deadline to be able to vote in the general.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 8: First day of early in-person voting for the general.

  • 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24: Deadline for your county clerk to receive your absentee ballot application.

  • Noon Monday, Nov. 4: End of early in-person voting.

  • 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5: Deadline for county officials to receive your completed ballot.
