Indiana, Midwest hit by severe storms. Here's what we know.

The eve of April Fool's Day was no joke. A line of severe storms came from the west, hitting several communities and causing extensive damage. Authorities reported three people died in Sullivan County and two others were killed at McCormick's Creek State Park.

Where did severe storms hit in Indiana?

Survey crews from the NWS Indianapolis found signs of likely tornado damage in Sullivan, Johnson, Owen, Howard and Clinton counties, the agency said Saturday evening on Facebook.

How many tornadoes hit Indiana?

At least seven tornadoes hit Indiana during the severe weather that hit the state Friday night into Saturday morning, according to National Weather Service surveys completed Saturday, and crews will continue working Sunday to determine what happened and where.

What happened in Johnson County?

In Johnson County, south of Indianapolis, the storm knocked down power lines and damaged several houses and businesses in Whiteland. The NWS said the town was hit by a tornado with a preliminary rating of EF2 and peak winds of 135 mph. In addition, an EF0 with peak winds of 85 mph struck south of Bargersville.

No fatalities had been reported as of Saturday evening.

What about McCormick's Creek?

Owen County EMS was out at McCormick's Creek State Park overnight, and Jack White said one area at the park was "just devastated."

A husband and wife from Rossville were found dead following a search Saturday. The victims have been identified as Brett Kincaid, 53, and Wendy Kincaid, 47.

Downed trees and electric outages were reported in other areas of Owen County. White said about half of the town of Spencer still had no power Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service didn't report Saturday evening whether it had surveyed damage in Owen County or if it plans to.

Did anyone else die in Indiana?

Three people were killed in Sullivan County, according to Indiana State Police. The NWS has preliminarily rated the tornado that hit there an EF3.

The Sullivan tornado had peak winds of 155 mph. Its trail of destruction on the ground was 9 miles in length. The width is still undetermined, though National Weather Service Indianapolis meteorologist Matthew Eckhoff told IndyStar Sunday afternoon it could have been at least a quarter mile wide.

One of the people killed was Shane Goodman, 47, who lived just outside Sullivan city limits, Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb told media Sunday afternoon. In the tightknit town of less than 5,000, the Goodman family was well-known, Lamb said.

Goodman was trapped in rubble under his home right outside Sullivan city limits at St. Claire Street, Sullivan County coroner Joe Coffman told IndyStar Sunday afternoon.

The two other victims are Susan Kay Horton, 61, and Thomas Horton, 38, according to Coffman. The cause of death for all three victims was blunt force trauma.

Was Martinsville hit by a tornado?

Residents reported significant damage in Martinsville following the Friday night storms, but National Weather Service crews didn't survey the Morgan County city Saturday. The agency said it hopes to do so Sunday.

Are schools closed Monday?

Clark-Pleasant Community School Corp. announced on Facebook Sunday that classes would be canceled Monday. Some of the buildings were without power, utility poles were down and some roads remained blocked, creating significant traffic issues, especially for school buses. Clark-Pleasant said it would reassess the situation Monday and give an update at that time.
