Some Indiana officials are helping Chicago police defy Mayor Lori Lightfoot's vaccine mandate.

Officials in the state, including Sen. Mike Braun, a Republican, are welcoming Chicago police officers who are at risk of losing their jobs over their refusal to get the coronavirus vaccine. That would mean theoretically about 3,000 officers, according to a report.

"Indiana’s police departments are hiring now and will welcome you with the respect you deserve," Braun said.

Lightfoot announced the vaccine mandate for police in August. They must be vaccinated by Saturday, but they also have the option to take coronavirus tests on their own time and dime.

Officers who don't comply "do so at their peril," Lightfoot said.

"Insubordination is not something that we can tolerate," she added.

The officers who decided to forgo the vaccine mandate "deserve respect," Braun said.

"Our police do the hardest job in the world, and they deserve respect — not losing their pay or being fired for refusing to comply with a ridiculous vaccine mandate," he said.

There is a "brighter future right over the border" for police coming from Chicago, said Munster, Indiana, Police Chief Steve Scheckel, adding that one has already joined his force.

"We've been seeing more and more Chicago police officers when we do an emergency hire, which is basically a lateral transfer," he told Fox News. "They already have the academy."
