Indiana University men's soccer team releases 2022 schedule, celebrates 50th season

Indiana men's soccer released its 2022 schedule Thursday morning.

The Hoosiers face eight teams that played in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, including two that reached the NCAA College Cup. Eleven of IU's opponents finished top-60 in the end-of-season RPI ranking.

"This is a special season for IU men's soccer,"  Indiana men's soccer coach Todd Yeagley said in an IU press release. "We are celebrating the 50th varsity season of Indiana men's soccer, and we look forward to having our fans and alumni share in this historic season. We have once again put together a very challenging schedule, making each match an important building block to help this team compete for championships."

IU will play three preseason exhibitions, with the first at Bill Armstrong Stadium against DePaul on Friday, August 12 at 8 p.m.. Indiana then plays Bowling Green at Grand Park Sports Complex in Indianapolis on August 16, and at Louisville on August 19.

Non-conference games to watch

The Hoosiers begin the 2022 regular season with a marquee road contest at Clemson on Friday, August 26.

Indiana's home opener is Tuesday, August 30 against Portland at 8 p.m. In total, IU plays 10 regular season home games at Bill Armstrong Stadium this season.

IU hosts Notre Dame in the first game of the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic on Saturday, September 3 at 8 p.m. IU football opens its season one night before, with a Friday night game against Illinois.

St. Johns visits Bill Armstrong Stadium in the second game of the Classic on Tuesday, September 6 at 8 p.m.

IU will take on Butler in Indianapolis on Wednesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. and will host rival Kentucky on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Big Ten challenges

Indiana's Big Ten slate begins Sunday, September 18 at 2 p.m. with a road contest at Ohio State. The Hoosiers' Big Ten home opener is against Michigan State on Friday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The Hoosiers will play reigning Big Ten champions Penn State in Bloomington on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. The Nittany Lions finished one game above IU in the conference standings last year — IU came in third in the Big Ten, with Maryland placing second. PSU also defeated Indiana, 3-0, in the Big Ten title game.

Indiana's home finale is against Maryland on Sunday, October 30 with the time to be announced later.

Indiana will try for its fourth Big Ten Tournament title in five seasons when the three-round tournament plays out from November 6-13. IU has earned a spot in the final match in five straight seasons.

The NCAA men's soccer season will conclude with the NCAA College Cup, scheduled for December 9-11 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
