Indianapolis coffee shop to offer food inspired by the French Alps in old fire station

A coffee shop, bar and restaurant, Chalet, inspired by the food and feel of the French Alps, is opening Feb. 2 in Butler-Tarkington.

Small Victories Hospitality, the restaurant group that owns the popular coffee shops Provider and Coat Check, is opening up Chalet at a former fire house.

"It's just a nod to the neighborhood," said Jes Nijjer, the director of marketing and communications for Small Victories Hospitality. "That fire station was there for quite some time and so many of the original elements are really beautiful."

The restaurant company made minimal changes to the casual dining space at 5555 N. Illinois St., Nijjer said. Chalet will serve coffee, hot drinks and pastries from the morning to the afternoon, similar to the food and drinks offerings at Coat Check and Provider.

By March, the offerings will expand to a dinner menu, wine and beer. Chalet will offer raclette, a melty cheese from the French Alps that goes on fries and sandwiches, meats and cheeses, potatoes, and other small plates.

Chalet will also have a patio for the warm months of the year.
