Indianapolis Zoo needs your vote to get named best in the nation

The Indianapolis Zoo is in the running to be named the best zoo in the nation.

But it needs help to bring the honor home.

It’s among 20 nominees in the USA TODAY’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Best Zoo Contest for 2023.

Nominees are submitted by a panel of experts and 10Best editors narrowed the field that is now open to reader voting.

One of the experts described Indy’s zoo as very walkable with a variety of animals, and up-close-and-personal animal adventures, such as bathing elephants and watching penguins paint art. Admission fees help the zoo in its efforts to save wildlife and wild places that are at risk, the entry notes.

Readers can vote in the category once a day.

The Indianapolis Zoo was the fourth highest vote-getter by Thursday afternoon — behind zoos in Omaha, Nebraska; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
