Indians fall to the Trojans in regular season finale

Jul. 14—OSKALOOSA — The Indians have been building up momentum towards the postseason and Tuesday night might have taken a small hit to that momentum they were building up. In a close game, the Indians took a loss 5-3 to the Fairfield Trojans.

The Trojans would take the lead in the first inning as an error on a single hit to left field allowed the runner from second to score without a play being made at home. This would lead to them scoring a run to go up 1-0.

Logan Hoskinson would answer the bell scoring Marcus Frequez on an error by the first basemen for the Trojans. Fairfield fired back in the top of the third inning with a single to left field that would score one run to go up 2-1. Oskaloosa would not be down for long as Landon Briggs flew out to right field allowing Kamden Criss to score on the tag up from third.

Fairfield and Osky would trade leads and ties until the top of the fifth inning where Fairfield would take the lead and not allow the Indians to make any type of run to get back into the game. With two outs and bases loaded, Brody Angstead singled on a line drive to right field scoring two runs that would make the score 5-2.

Oskaloosa would get a run back as Hoskinson drove in another run on a single to center field scoring Fresquez. The Indians would not be able to score another run in the game as they would take the loss.

Wes Wilcox got the start on the mound in the final regular season game pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out three. Alex Christ, Jarret Czerwinski and Aiden Hildenbrand all came in as relief pitchers during the game. Aiden North would lead the Indians at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with a double in the game.

This last game would also be special as the team would wear wrist bands in the game in support of Bentley, who is battling Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. The Oskaloosa baseball team supported Bentley by wearing wristbands that had the letter B on them through the game. The wrist bands were donated to the team by DWS Photography and were made by Screen Print & Embroidery.

The Indians (7-22) will play Xavier (23-12) at the Xavier High School in the Class 3A Substate 5 First Round game Friday night at 7 p.m.
