Indigenous Activists Rally Outside White House to Demand Greater Climate Action

Indigenous activists rallied outside the White House in Washington, DC, on October 11, and urged US President Joe Biden to declare a national climate emergency.

Native American leaders, tribal members, and supporters gathered in the capital on Indigenous Peoples’ Day for the protest, which was part of the five-day People vs Fossil Fuels event. The group’s demands include more extreme actions to curb carbon-producing fossil-fuel projects, according to the event’s website.

According to the Washington Post, United States Secret Service (USSS) officers used a fence to move climate protesters away from the White House and towards Lafayette Square.
