Indigenous Caravan Traverses Mexico to Protest Land Dispute

A caravan of indigenous Wixarika people marched across Mexico to demand a portion of land be returned to them, arriving at the city of Zapopan on Thursday, May 5.

The Wixarika Caravan of Dignity and Awareness was demanding that 10,500 hectares taken by ranchers be returned to them, The Cronica Jalisco reported.

Video filmed by Proteccion Civil y Bomberos Zapopan shows the Wixarika caravan walking in Zapopan on Thursday. The service said around 155 people were in the caravan when it arrived in Zapopan.

The Cronica Jalisco reported on Thursday that the caravan left on April 25 from San Sebastian Teponahuaxtlan and had traveled almost 350 kilometers.
