DUNDEE – That groan you heard Saturday was from 152-pound wrestlers in Division 3 across the state of Michigan.

Dundee’s three-time state champion Casey Swiderski decided to enter the individual state tournament at that weight class.

He could have gone at 145 pounds but left that weight class for teammate Aiden Davis.

It was also possible that he could have dropped down to 140. He wrestled at 141 in a college tournament earlier this season.

But 152 was his choice.

“That was probably best for our team,” Dundee coach Tim Roberts said of Swiderski’s choice. “Aiden Davis has a very good chance of being a state champ at 145.”

Bumping up to create a better opportunity for a teammate is nothing new for Swiderski.

“As a sophomore, he could have gone 119, but he went 135,” Roberts said. “Last year, he could have gone 130, but he won state at 145.”

Dundee pushed all 14 of its entrees through the Individual District Tournament it hosted Saturday to next week’s Individual Regionals.

Swiderski was one of 10 champions for the Vikings, joining Ashton Viers (103), Kade Kluce (112), Braeden Davis (119), Cameron Chinavare (135), Kaden Chinavare (130), Kole Katschor (135), Trey Parker (140), Aiden Davis (145) and Connor Collins (160).

Kyle Smith (119), Logan Sander (135), Austin Jaworski (145) and Jacob Fenbert (152) all placed second to Dundee teammates.

“We wrestled well,” Roberts said. “We won every match we wrestled.”

None of the championship matches that would have featured two Vikings were wrestled.

“We voided those,” Roberts said. “In some of them we just took the guy who was the established No. 1 (as the champion). In one of the weight classes we asked the guys if they wanted to wrestle. One of them said yes and the other said, ‘Not this week.’ We gave it to the one who said yes.”

Brayden Williams (189) and Joey Siniarski (285) won championships for Flat Rock. Other Regional qualifiers for the Rams were Nicholas Dropiewski (second at 103), Ryan Diebel (third at 112), Andrew Given (third at 145) and Walter Mack (fourth at 145).

Erie Mason’s Andrew Perhard was the 215-pound champion.

He will be joined at Regionals by a trio of teammates who placed third – Richard Cicero (119), Ryan Joyce (125) and Johnathan Nolan (189).

Dylan Spencer (112) and Peter Pena (140) both were runners-up for Milan. The Big Reds also placed Jordan Vinson (103) and Sebastian Majer (171) third, and Kaleb Martin (125) and Micah Adkins (171) fourth.

Ida will be represented at Regionals by third-place finishers Izaiah Machuca (152) and Tyler Konieczny (140), and fourth placers Josh Pfeiffer (119) and Josh Crozier (130).

DIVISION 1

WESTLAND – Bedford pushed 13 of its 14 wrestlers through to Regionals including champions Noah Benore (130) and Rollie Denker (160).

The Mules got seconds from Vincent Cole (103), Brock Jandasek (119), Nathan Gerber (125), Tyler Boerst (152), Randy Boisselle (171) and Ethan Manger (189), thirds from Lucas Gerber (119) and Jack Nigh (145), and fourths from Caleb Jagielski (135), Austin Meszaros (145) and Robbie Gossard (215).

Adrian Rincon of Monroe took second at 285 and teammate Tommy Honeycutt also qualified for Regionals by placing third at 140.

DIVISION 2

ADRIAN – Gibraltar Carlson had champions at five weight classes – Deisel Gessner (125), Timmy Simons (145), Eddie Light (152), Owen Sugarbaker (160) and Gabrial Lyle (215).

Simons handed Airport’s Jack Mills just his second loss of the season in the finals.

“I knew we were capable of it, but that probably was the best-case scenario,” Carlson coach Lance Hassell said. “The guys went out there and performed. It was a great day.”

The Marauders had a total of 10 Regional qualifiers as Collin Barkley (119) and Zach Taylor (130) placed second, Nathan Severenski (171) third, and Derrick Szucs (285) and Bennett Szucs (103) fourth.

Jefferson wound up with 11 Regional qualifiers, but Dylan Garcia (130) was the only Bear to take first place.

Isaac Masserant (103) and Caleb Smiley (135) were second, Seth Minney (160) and Nathan Masserant (215) third, and Ryder Mulherin (119), Noah White (140), Carter Samota (145), Ronnie Allen (152), Anthony Cousino (189) and Freddie Martin (285) fourth.

“It was a good day all in all,” Jefferson coach Mike Humphrey said. “The kids wrestled pretty well.”

One down moment for the Bears came early. Cody Richards, a state runner up last season, failed to make weight and was unable to wrestle.

Eric Radulescu (119) and Kael Wisler (189) won District titles for New Boston Huron, which also got a second from Wyatt Marenette (215) and fourths from Andrew Ladach (130) and Landon Julio (135).

Mills and Evan Kemp (160) were second for Airport. They will be joined at Regionals by Jacob VanBuskirk (third at 112) and Gavin Day (fourth at 215).

DIVISION 4

WESTLAND – Murphy Bogdanski (third at 285) and Michael Lynch (fourth at 130) advanced to the Regional for St. Mary Catholic Central.
