Indonesia arrests suspect linked to Bali bombings

Indonesian police arrested one of the senior members of the Al Qaeda-linked militant group, Jemaah Islamiah, last Thursday(December 10) , who police say was behind the 2002 bombings that killed over 200 people in Bali.

The group's stated aim is to build an Islamic caliphate in Southeast Asia.

The arrested man, named Zulkarnaen, was one of the commanders of the Bali attack, according to an anti-terrorism police spokesman on Saturday.

Zulkarnaen is believed to have been involved in making the bombs that were used in the Bali attacks, aswell as the bombing of the J.W. Marriott in Jakarta in 2003 that killed 12 people.

Reuters was unable to reach Zulkarnaen or find out whether he had any legal representation.

According to a U.N. Security Council report, he also goes by the name Aris Sumarsono.

When he was arrested, police say they were met with no resistence
