New indoor golf training center opens in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — There’s a new way to practice your golf swing in Grand Rapids.

The Brandon Roby Golf Performance Center has officially opened at 2320 28th Street near Breton Road. The new indoor training facility will allow golfers the chance to practice even when the greens and fairways are closed for the season.

Roby, the former director of instruction at Cascade Hills Country Club, founded the space in December. It now has more than 18,000 square feet that will allow guests to use Trackman simulators to practice the sport.

“You practice golf 75% of the time on your own, by yourself. And if that’s the case, we get lost in translation, we forget what we say, we forget what we’re trying to do and I didn’t want that to happen to people anymore. So, providing an atmosphere like this where you can leave a better golfer is ginormous for me,” Roby said.

There are six simulators, a 1,300-square-foot putting green and a putting simulator. The size makes it the largest indoor training facility of its kind in the state of Michigan, management says. The space is open to golfers of all skill levels.

Roby himself was named one of Golf Digest’s best teachers in the state of Michigan in 2022. He was also an assistant golf professional at the Kent County Country Club. He said he has spent the past three years working on making his dream facility a reality.

“We built the facility to make you a better golfer, whatever that looks like,” he said. “If you’re just getting into the game or you have aspirations of playing on the tour, we will provide everything that we can. We have a personal trainer, we can do the mental side, we have the technology that you can measure in order for you to get better.”

Memberships to the center and hourly rentals for the different bays can now be purchased. Click here for more.
