INDOT opens two new bridges over I-69 in Morgan County

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Monday morning that some of the supporting infrastructure around future stretches of I-69 opened this week, allowing motorists more connection to local roadways.

INDOT, according to project officials, opened both the Teeters Road and Myra Lane overpasses Monday.

"Construction started last year with crews digging out nearly 1 million cubic yards of earth to lower (State Road) 37 for the future I-69," the state said in its weekly update.

The extra dirt was compacted and used in other areas of the I-69 Finish Line project.

Because both overpasses are now open, temporary driveway access for the Ozark Fisheries and Martinsville First United Methodist Church will close.

"(State Road) 37 remains restricted to two lanes — one in each direction — for temporary driveway removal, paving and striping in the area," INDOT noted.

INDOT also gave a number of other updates for the I-69 project.

Morgan County

Officials from the project recently conducted a field visit with state and federal officials to help keep an eye on environmental protection efforts during and after work in Morgan County.

"The new Bobby Helms Boulevard access road is taking shape in the Artesian Square Shopping Center," INDOT noted. "After it opens in the coming weeks, the Ohio Street driveways for the Martinsville Burger King and Kroger Gas Station will close permanently," INDOT noted.

Johnson County

Up in Johnson County, rebuilding pavement along State Road 37 for the future interstate is getting close to the halfway point.

"Look for northbound (State Road) 37 traffic to shift onto new pavement north of (State Road) 144 as early as next week," INDOT added. "Southbound traffic is expected to shift about a week later."

The new bridge for State Road 144 that will carry traffic over I-69 is expected to open to traffic next month.

This opening will allow the state to remove the traffic signal at the State Road 37, 144 intersection.

Marion County

Installation of gas lines is expected to close Banta Road east of State Road 37 either later this month or in early September.

"Edgewood Avenue is expected to reopen east of (State Road) 37 for right turns as a temporary alternate route," INDOT said.

Utility work near Banta Road is moving forward in preparation of an expected closure of Epler Avenue west of State Road 37. This work is expected to start next month.

"I-465 traffic should continue to expect nightly lane closures for median removal and bridgework on the southwest side between (State Road) 67/Kentucky Avenue and I-65," INDOT noted. "Work on the Carson Avenue overpass requires nightly closures of the southbound I-65 ramp to westbound I-465."
