NOBLESVILLE 67, HAMILTON HEIGHTS 41

Noblesville girls basketball improved to 2-0 on the season with a 67-41 win over Hamilton Heights on Friday night.

Turning point

After a slow start to the third quarter by both teams, Noblesville took over the quarter with its 3-point shooting. Brooklyn Ely started the flurry for the Millers and it was also capped off by Ely. Ava Shoemaker and Reagan Wilson also contributed 3s of their own. Using their full-court press led by Ashlynn Shade, the Millers got open 3s with their ball movement and defense. The Millers 1-2-2 full court pressure on the Huskies was hard to stop.

Play of the game

The biggest play of the game goes to the Millers Dani Mendez. On the Millers' run, Mendez blocked a floater in the paint, which allowed Noblesville to push the ball into a fast break, in which they converted another 3-pointer. This block helped the Millers sustain their flurry of 3s. Mendez’s paint presence was made known and ultimately solidified the Millers' defense the rest of the game.

Player of the game

The standout goes to Brooklyn Ely. In the Millers' home opener, Ely got hot in the third quarter, rattling off many 3-pointers. -- Zachary Powell, for IndyStar
