Indy woman who fatally shot 78-year-old coin collector sentenced to decades in prison

Update: Kayla Blankenship was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the 2020 shooting of Paul Edmonds on May 12, 2022, according to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. She previously pleaded guilty to a murder charge Monday, April 18, 2022.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting on the east side, according to police.

Kayla Blankenship, 24, was arrested in the shooting of 78-year-old Paul Edmonds in a Hardee’s parking lot.

Police say Edmonds, who owned Diamond Stamp and Coin, 3340 N. Shadeland Ave., was meeting a customer for a business transaction outside the fast food restaurant at 5950 S. Brookville Road at 7 p.m. Friday when he was robbed and shot.

Edmonds was transported to a nearby hospital, according to police, where he died.

IMPD officer Genae Cook said IMPD is unable to release further information about Edmonds' Friday night transaction at this time.
