IndyCar Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway delayed by weather
The GMR Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was delayed Saturday by weather.
The IndyCar Series can run in the rain on road courses, but lightning in the IMS area prompted a weather advisory. Once lightning is sighted within a few miles of the track, officials delay any racing for at least 30 minutes.
IMS officials had moved up the starting time in anticipation of potential poor late-afternoon weather. With the delay, the checkered flag was roughly back to its original time.
Will Power won the pole position for Saturday's 85-lap (or 120-minute) race on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile course, with Alex Palou also starting on the front row.
