After two years as CEO of the IndyFringe theater and festival, Justin Brady is leaving Indianapolis for a new opportunity. He will become the director of development for the Berkshire Theatre Group in Massachusetts, according to a Monday email from the theater.

His last day will be Jan. 31. Jeffrey Dalstrom, IndyFringe's associate director, has been selected as the interim executive director. The job description is posted at indyfringe.org/work.

Brady, a Butler University and Indiana University alum, came on board as the organization's leader in the fall of 2020 and had history with IndyFringe before that. He had been IndyFringe's first intern, gaining the position after he interviewed former IndyFringe CEO Pauline Moffat and then pitched her a strategy for a college public relations class assignment. His other work experience includes manager of the annual fund and events at New 42nd Street and development officer at the Clinton Foundation.

The annual IndyFringe festival programs traditional and nontraditional theater, dance, music, magic, comedy and improvisation by performers from all over the world. Its headquarters are at the IndyFringe Basile and Indy Eleven theaters near the corner of St. Clair Street and College Avenue.

Brady led the festival through the challenges of returning to performances in 2021 and 2022 after 2020's cancellation due to the pandemic. He helped pioneer a scheduling change that spread out the festival over a longer period of time and added more flexibility. 2022 also saw a new Art Bizarre and adjusted rules to increase equity in show selections.

IndyFringe also has continued its partnership with the Africana Repertory Theatre of IUPUI. It will stage OnyxFest, a festival that celebrates Black playwrights, in the spring and fall in 2023 instead of holding it just once a year. 2022 saw the largest audience in the festival's history, according to the theater.
