Ingham County 911 affected by nationwide mobile outage

UPDATE: AT&T reported shortly after 3 p.m. that all customers impacted by the issues with service have had their service restored.

“We have restored wireless service to all our affected customers. We sincerely apologize to them. Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future.”

In addition, a spokeswoman from T-Mobile, says the company did not experience an outage, as had been indicated by DownDetector.com.

“Our network is operating normally. Down Detector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks,” the spokeswoman wrote in the email.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A nationwide mobile network outage is causing problems for Ingham County’s 911 service.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, it is the AT&T outage affecting the local 911 system.

AT&T is currently experiencing a network outage that may affect the ability for AT&T wireless customers to call 911.
If you have an emergency and are unable to reach Ingham County Central Dispatch by calling or texting 911, call 517-483-4600 and select the option for dispatch.
This is a nationwide issue with no estimate on when they will be able to restore service.

Outages are being reported for AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Cricket customers, according to DownDetector.com, a website that tracks service outages. It indicated a spike in complaints about their service, particularly AT&T, starting early Thursday morning.

More than 30,000 AT&T users reported an outage around 4:30 a.m. ET. Users reported that their cell phones had no signal, with many saying they were not able to make or receive calls. However, texting appeared to be working.

The site showed problems reported in several major cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Houston, among others.

Nearly 2,000 Verizon users were also having issues with their cell phone signal. Users said the issue started around 4 a.m. ET.

A live outage map from Downdector showed Verizon users in Tampa, Florida; New York; Montreal, and Witchita, Kansas, having the majority of the issues.

T-Mobile users in Los Angeles, Houston and New York were also experiencing issues with their cell phone signal.

According to Apple, customers with iPhones will still be able to make emergency calls if “SOS” or “SOS only” is seen in the status bar.
