Ingham County Health Department giving out free KN95 masks next week

LANSING — The Ingham County Health Department is giving out free KN95 face masks next week to help prevent transmission of the omicron variant.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said in recent guidance that N95 masks, approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), provide the highest level of protection against the contagious new variant.

The health department, located at 5303 S. Cedar St. in Lansing, will offer free packages of five adult KN95 masks — a variation of the N95 made with ear loops to meet Chinese standards for medical masks — from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis.

"Mask packages are available with the greeter at the entrance of Door #3," the health department wrote in a tweet.

A limited quantity of N95 masks will be provided each day to ensure the supply lasts throughout the week. Individuals are limited to one free package per person.
