Ingham County Jail inmate dies after deputies find him in 'medical distress'

MASON − Officials are investigating the death of an inmate at the Ingham County Jail.

Dudley Lamont Riley, 55, of Lansing, was taken to Sparrow Hospital after deputies found him in "medical distress" on Tuesday morning, sheriff's officials said in a news release.

Jail staff, including a medical doctor, tried life-saving measures, but Riley was later pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said.

Riley had been in custody since Sept. 29, sheriff's officials said. He was being held on charges that included felony retail fraud.

The Michigan Sheriffs Association will investigate the incident, and the investigation will be reviewed by the state Attorney General's Office.

No other details were being released, officials said.
